Sustainable Schoolyards


The California Global Education Project at CSUF and UCSB invites you and your school team to register for the 2023 Sustainable Schoolyards Program. Teams should consist of 2 or more teachers from the same school who are interested in collaborating on a shared project. Cross-disciplinary and multi-grade teams are encouraged. Please remember that each team member must register separately. 

Sustainable Schoolyards is a 5-month program starting January 2023 where school teams are supported and encouraged to co-develop with their students a solution to a sustainability issue in their school's outdoor space. Teacher teams join us for 3 whole group virtual meetings including a showcase of glows and grows in May 2023, and 2 virtual or in-person individual team meetings. Teacher teams also participate in an asynchronous virtual exchange twice a month with a partner school, complete a team action plan, short end of program survey, and paperwork to process stipends.

May 24, 2023, 4-6pm (Showcase of what you have accomplished so far)

Regular attendees will:
- Increase their understanding and appreciation of teaching for sustainable development.
- Co-develop with their students and partnering teachers a solution to a sustainability issue in their school's outdoor space.
- Receive free materials and books.
- Connect with other educators from across California who are working on sustainable school yard projects.
- Participate in an asynchronous virtual exchange with teachers and students from other participating schools.
- Be eligible for a $250 stipend.
